Outdoor Season Off and Running

Sunday, April 16 2023 - Bud Mohns Invite (Downers Grove South)

Momentum has been building with the team the last few weeks. Energy and hard work have been a mainstay at practice. The sprint crew got a nice boost late in the indoor season with a group of sophomore sprinters who have infused even more positive energy. The start of the outdoor season that energy has been paying off in some great results.

Some of the big highlights from Saturday at Bud Mohns/Bob Cohoon Invitational at Downers Grove South on the sprint-side. The varsity 4x200 ran a season best time of 1:33.87, Nigel Osei Asare ran with a purpose on the lead off leg, and some great baton passes from the rest of the crew of Torrance Freeman, Scott Freischlag, and Michael Kabore helped the guys get 4th overall out of the slower section. The frosh/soph 4x200 had a tough handoff that resulted in a DQ but saw a really strong lead off leg from Alex Haberkamp and a monster 2nd leg from Noah Trenter who is really seeing big improvements in the past few weeks. Christian Crowder rana strong leg in the 4x100 and then came back and ran over a half a second PR in the 400. Cameron Krankle also came away with a PR in the 400, as did Talan Sihalath. Nick Ramey continues to make improves, this time with a PR in the 300 hurdles. Bryan Underwood ran his aggressive style in the 300 hurdles and came away with a 3rd place finish.

The throws guys were led by a massive PR in the shot put by Jesse Perez to take 5th overall. Robert Parker also had a big PR in the discus.

Jumps crew also bought some fire in the field. Cobey McGregory came away with a PR in the high jump, Stephon Griffin finished 3rd overall in the high jump. Michael Jackson had a PR in the long jump. And both Kedan Strickland (long jump) and James Kulekowskis (TJ) finished 5th overall.

Adrian Castillo got the day going for the distance guys with a PR in the 3200. Aden Veljacic ran a PR in the 800. The frosh/soph 4x400 of Luke Adair, Diego Arce, Jake Michel and Alex Haberkamp all ran PRs and finished 5th overall. The milers capped a good day for the distance crew with a double PR in the fast varsity heat with Tyler Schick finishing 3rd in 4:36 and Arnold Arce finishing 7th in 4:41.

Also big shout out to Gavin Schnowske and Jake Michel who stepped up an ran the 800.

The team is back in action on Wednesday at Oswego East and next Friday at Wheaton South.
