Back to Racing

Saturday, September 15 2018 - Richard Spring Invitational

After a two and a half weeks with no races the Wildcats got back to it this week, hosting Joliet West in a dual on Tuesday and then heading to Richard Spring at Detweiller Park on Saturday. Here are a few of the highlights:

Javy Garcia leads the varsity team to victory with a first place overall finish against Joliet West. He was followed very closely by Austin Emrath, who had quite the week. Last Saturday Austin was named Runner of the Week on his birthday, then he went out and ran two lifetime PRs, in the Tuesday dual he ran 17:10 and then Saturday he really showed where his fitness is to run a big time 37 second PR of 16:33. Austin looked like a man possessed on the famed Detweiller course as he got out in a good spot and continued to move up throughout the race.

Tommy Adelmann was able to break 17 for the first time, running a strong 16:50 at Richard Spring. Tommy showed some great assertiveness in both his races this week.

The Freshman continue to shine. Aaron Wyckoff led the fr/so team on Tuesday and was able to break 18 for the first time (17:53). He would not be lone sub 18 freshman for long, as both Cam Mulyk and Mike Forbear both ran 17:48 at Detweiller. They were followed closely by Paul De Avila 18:15 and Alex Rojo who ran a 68 second PR to run 19:00.

Two other freshman who stood out this week were Jacob Obman who ran incredibly consistent spits in both of his races this week Tuesday he ran 7:00, 7:02, 6:44 and then Saturday he ran another race where he closed hard 6:19, 6:50, 6:21. The other freshman who showed some serious pacing ability was Jayson Matula who ran 6:45, 6:45, 6:41 to bust out a massive PR at Detweiller.

Senior Nick Ruiz took a big step in his racing this week, dropping his season best time nearly 2 minutes!

We also had 12 athletes who PR’d in both races this week, a great accomplishment on two hot and muggy days: Austin Emrath, Tommy Adelmann, Mike Forbear, Colin Graefen, Paul De Avila, Vince Franco, Alex Rojo, Chris Cockrell, Jayson Matula, EJ Brotarlo, Nick Ruiz, and Alec Ruiz.
